Prevalence of Candidiasis and Associated Site of Infection among HIV Patients Attending Federal Medical Center, Azare

Patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) are at the greatest risk of being infected various opportunistic infections, as their immune systems become so weak to fight against infectious agents. Candida species among commonest pathogens affecting people weakened systems. Candidiasis remains major challenge public health important HIV patients. There is scarcity information regarding impact in Northeastern part Nigeria, especially Bauchi State. This study aimed determining prevalence and associated site infection Clinical samples such blood, urine, sputum oral swab were collected from 300 patients attending Federal Medical Center Azare, The isolated on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar identified using Corn meal agar, Germ tube test, ChromagarCandida, Gram staining Lactophenol cotton blue. Four which albican (51%) was most prevalent followed by glabrata (12%). isolates colonized cavity 51.11% making candidiasis common troublesome form patients, has been caused mostly albican.
